How was the attendance at your last business retreat, screenwriting seminar, or all-church picnic? Only so-so? Did you get a lot of, Oh, was that last weekend? even though you announced it at every opportunity? The people around you lead busy lives. Your announcement has a lot of competition. It may not ever surface again in anyones mind. You need a unique memory prompt.
Take a look at your refrigerator. How many magnets are on it and how long have they been there? Every time you go for a sandwich or a beer, there is the lizard with Hawaii written across its back, the washer that has the number of Jiffy Job appliance repair on it and who knows how many others. Now suppose one of them said, save the date! Vendors convention May 30 & 31 at McCormick Place. Theres your reminder, three or four times a day.
Stick with a rectangle or choose shapes that echo the message: a guitar, a house, a soccer ball, etc. Keep it simple - one or two colors and a few words. If possible, hand them out to people one at a time.
Save the date magnets are reasonably priced and work well.
